Vows: From Likes To Love
It was instant attraction for Philadelphia resident Shereika Hemmings and Jamaican deejay Kevin “KevyD” Segree. The two initially met on Facebook after Kevin saw Shereika’s photos and started to like and comment on them. He would thereafter follow her on all her social media platforms. Numbers were eventually exchanged via Instagram, and from there, their friendship matured into love.
Their first in-person interaction took place in Jamaica in 2021. There was no disputing the attraction. Shereika shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV) that it was love at first sight, while Kevin “knew that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with”.
“Kevin’s proposal came while I was visiting on December 2, 2021, and today, we are declaring our ‘love at first sight’,” related the glowing bride to TSV. Her eyes glistened as she recalled the surprise dinner date at his home a year prior. “He held my hands tight as he professed his love and desire for us to be together forever. A ring appeared and I said ‘Yes!'” she concluded.
Come Saturday, November 5, surrounded by family and friends inside the Faith Tabernacle Shiloh Apostolic Church — beautifully decorated by Tracy Ann Segree and Jodi-Ann Brown — Kevin and Shereika professed their love for each other. Brian McKnight’s Everything signalled her entrance accompanied by her grandmother, Lesma Turner. She made quite the statement with her choice of gown — a spaghetti strap off-the-shoulder mermaid gown with crystal details from Rebegown. Her eclectic bouquet created by the groom’s sister Tracy Ann Segree comprised faux velvet royal blue roses, brown and beige dried pampas grass, dried bunny tail blooms, dried craspedia stems, finished with billy button ball flowers.
The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Richard D Bowes.
The reception followed at 100 Hope Road and kicked off in fine style with the newly-weds and their bridal party making their entrance to Olakira’s In My Maserati. This was followed by the couple’s first dance to Ride Pon Di Bike, a song written and performed by her bridegroom.
Dinner was followed by the cutting of the vanilla strawberry cake by Shea Drae’s Pastries.
Formalities over, the newly-weds and their guests partied to tunes spun by DJ Anthony McMarthy until the wee hours of the morning.
