Students benefit from church-based scholarships in St Elizabeth
BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth — Three tertiary students recently benefited from the launch of the Green Brissett Scholarship Foundation as part of the 70th anniversary celebration for the Bible Way Apostolic Church in Brompton near here.
Deacon Jhoneil Smith said Miami-based Evangelist Kayla Peart launched the foundation in October.
“Three students received cash in the amount of $70,000 each to assist with their tertiary education. This has added to the church’s scholarship foundation,” he explained.
He said that since 2014, the church has assisted primary and secondary school students with their exit examinations.
“This year, more than 30 students were given back-to-school supplies, certificates, badges of academic achievement, cash awards and two laptops. This 70th anniversary celebration is one that will resonate with us for a long time and will be forever engraved in our minds based on the myriad of positive impacts,” he said.
Deacon Smith said the church, which was established in 1952, hosted a four-day celebration of events.
“… Being so monumental, this memorable experience will be forever etched in the minds of the people who were fortunate to have witnessed it. The theme for the celebration was ‘Appreciating the Apostolic Legacy and Pressing Forward in Faith’. In keeping with the theme, this celebration was observed from October 23-26, 2022 and involved a church opening and rededication service,” he said.
“The church has many dedicated giants who have contributed significantly to this great legacy that we now bask in today. The Bible Way Apostolic Church in Brompton is a part of 10 evangelical saving stations. The church’s mission is centred on rightly dividing the word of truth and to be approved through the studying of the word, prayer and fasting,” he added.
He credited the church’s founding fathers the late Bishop Livingston Scarlett and the late Bishop Jubert Hylton.
“The church presently embraces the leadership of Pastor Pauline Brissett who has been acting since the passing of Bishop Jubert Hylton. She has been a member of this congregation for over 40 years and served in many areas of ministry,” said Smith.
A float parade was held on October 22 through Brompton, Black River and its environs.
Smith said through its outreach the church distributed over 60 care packages in Brompton.
