Jamaican events promoter Mikey Sparkle to receive award from state of Georgia
Events promoter and broadcaster Mikey Sparkle will be honoured by the state of Georgia during the staging of his annual Mikey Sparkle Christmas Party on Saturday.
Sparkle, who is the founder of online radio station dflavaradio.com, is quite upbeat about the recognition. He will receive the Outstanding Citizen award from the member of congress for Georgia’s 7th District Congresswoman Donna T McLeod.
“I was very surprised when I found out that I was chosen to receive this award. I feel honoured to be held in such high esteem. When I came to America in the 1990’s, I came here with the intention to work hard and to better myself. While doing so I’ve also been able to give back to my community here in Georgia. However, I never knew that one day I would receive an award for being a good citizen,” said Kingston born Sparkle.
For more than a decade, Sparkle, who is also a businessman, has promoted several Jamaican roots plays in the city of Lawrenceville including Divorce Court, Guilty with Explanation, Crazy But True, and Frenemy. He also promotes the annual Mikey Sparkle Family Funday event.
“Over the years I’ve staged some of the biggest Jamaican roots plays starring Oliver Samuels in Georgia. I’ve also put on a lot of parties. I can remember the days when I used to bring Merritone Disco from Jamaica. Those were some awesome events,” Sparkle shared.
Saturday’s staging of the Mikey Sparkle Christmas Party is headlined by singer Lukie D who will be backed by the Swatt Band. The event, which is scheduled to take place at the Grand Palais Banquet Hall in Lawrenceville, will also feature musical selections by DJ Carlton, DJ Cold Rice and Bugsy Bam Bam.
