Big wins for Cavalier, Frazsier’s Whip in Women’s Premier League
TUCKER, St James — Cavalier FC scored nine goals for the second-straight week after beating Real Montego Bay, and Frazsier’s Whip FC hammered Springers United 6-1 in a Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) double-header at WesPow Park in Tucker on Saturday.
Former national representative Rena Gordon scored four goals, two in either half, to lead Cavalier FC to their big win over Real MoBay and were up 5-0 at half-time.
In the first game of the double, Natoya Atkinson scored a second-half hat-trick in a 23-minute span after Latoya Duhaney had scored two in the first half for Frazsier’s Whip.
Both St James teams, including Springers FC who won their first game by beating Vere 2-0, looked decidedly inferior in the matches and rarely got out of their own half as the Corporate Area teams were given a lot of time and space to play as they wanted.
Springers United took the lead against the run of play when Darcie Wilson was brought down inside the Frazsier’s Whip box in their eighth minute — their first attack — and converted the penalty kick.
The visitors were level two minutes later when Duhaney was left unmarked at the far-right post and volleyed in a cross at the post.
Tajay Stephenson gave them the lead in the 15th minute when she got to a rebound form goalkeeper Shanique Parkinson and slammed it home, while Duhaney made the scores 3-1 in the 33rd minute.
Atkinson took over the game in the second half using her speed against the tired Springers United players and scored in the 55th, 77th and 78th minutes.
In the second game Real MoBay, who were beaten 11-0 in their first outing, trailed 5-0 at half-time as Gordon led her team from the front with goals in the 17th and 18th minutes to set Real MoBay back on their heels, and also got two more in the second half, netting in the 58th and 72nd minutes.
Kersha Thomas also got a brace, scoring both a minute apart in the 40th and 41st minutes, after Danielle James had scored directly from a corner kick in the 31st minute.
Suen Gregory also scored in the 65th minute and Jynell Graham, a second-half substitute, got one in the 68th minute.
