Jamaican Brandon Burke re-elected to WTA board
ATTORNEY-AT-LAW Brandon Burke, a six-time Jamaica Davis Cup national team member and former Brown University varsity tennis player, continues to make significant strides in the tennis world even though his days of playing competitively are behind him.
Burke was recently re-elected to the board of directors of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for a second two-year term. In his capacity as the player alternate representative Burke works alongside player board members Kristie Ahn, Anja Vreg, and Vanessa Webb to engage with all singles and doubles players on the Hologic WTA Tour and ensure that the board and WTA management are fully informed of their points of view in advocating for their best interests at the board level.
The Jamaican also serves as chairman of the board of the Women’s Tennis Benefit Association (WTBA) and is also on the board of directors of WTA Charities, the philanthropic arm of the WTA which aims to make a positive impact across the globe through various initiatives promoting equality, education, leadership, and health and wellness.
“The most rewarding experience of my life so far.” Burke said of his tenure serving the game outside of his country.
“The last few years have been difficult for everyone. We have worked hard to overcome new and unprecedented challenges and I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication of our team and the strides we have made, contributing to all that we have been able to achieve. It is an honour and a privilege to work with and learn from them every day. I look forward to continuing to push for the growth of women’s tennis and fight for what is in the best interest of our sport and the players,” he noted.
In addition to his roles with the WTA and the WTBA, Burke also serves on the Emerging Leaders Council for the International Tennis Hall of Fame and is the special projects manager for Gore Developments Limited in Jamaica. He continues to explore opportunities that exist to use his platform to help build the sport of tennis in Jamaica and show others the possibilities and opportunities that can exist through pursuing tennis.
