Herbert Morrison target ninth-straight basketball title
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Herbert Morrison Technical could win their ninth-straight ISSA Western ConferenceUnder-19 basketball title today when they face St James High in game two of their best-of-three finals at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, after winning Monday’s game one by 14 points 54-40 at Herbert Morrison.
Herbert Morrison, who topped both age group categories — the Under-16 and Under-19 — after the first round can win the double on Thursday when they take a one-game lead into game two against Holland High School in Trelawny.
On Monday, led by Hubert Rodney who scored 19 points, Herbert Morrison led 16-9 after the first quarter, were up 30-18 at the half-time break, and 44- 35 at the end of the third quarter.
Daniel Clarke also scored nine points while Makhaya Morris, Shemar Martin and Renaldo Lewin all scored eight points as Morris also got 13 rebounds.
Keith Smith had a double-double for St James High with 12 points and 14 rebounds as well as six blocked shots; Reiki Brown scored 19 points; Josan Williams scored eight points and had 13 rebounds; while T’Sean Crossman also got 12 rebounds.
In the Under-16 game Herbert Morrison won by 20 points (51-31) and led 11-7, 23-13 and 37-23 at the end of the first three quarters as Kamu Dennis led with a double-double 13 points and 21 rebounds along with seven blocked shots.
Tevaughn Bernard led the scoring with 17 points and had eight rebounds, Joshua Ferguson scored nine points, and Gabriele Scalmana scored eight points.
Evair Hines had a double-double for Holland High, scoring 12 points and had 10 rebounds, Zaheer Lynch scored six points, and Khaleel Anderson scored five points and had nine steals and six reboun ds.
