St James, Holland swoop into high school basketball finals
MONTEGO BAY, St James — St James High School and Holland High School have confirmed their places in the best-of-three finals of the ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition after semi-final wins last week.
St James High hammered Holland High 100-49 in the Under-19 semi-final played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Friday, a day after Holland High had beaten Cornwall College 45-38 in over time in their Under-16 game played at Holland High on Thursday.
Both teams will meet Herbert Morrison in the best-of-three finals set to start on Monday at Herbert Morrison Technical.
Two players scored double-doubles for St James High and two others scored in double digits in the 50-plus points wins with T’Sean Crossman, Keith Smith and Jodel Williams all scoring 23 points; Crossman also had 28 rebounds, Smith had 16 rebounds while Wayne Lawrence also had 11 rebounds.
Shamar Kean scored a game-high 27 points for Holland High while Jamie-Lee Gardener scored 13 points.
On Thursday, Cornwall College rallied in the fourth quarter to tie up the scores at 38-all but Holland scored all seven points in the extra period as Cornwall College slumped to a fourth-straight loss.
Holland High led 8-5 after the first quarter, 23-15 at half-time but Cornwall College started their comeback in the third quarter and trailed by only two points 21-23 at the end of the third quarter before tying up the scores at the end of the fourth quarter.
Evair Hines had a double-double to lead Holland High with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Renaldo Hosang scored 10 points and Khaleel Anderson scored nine points and had eight steals.
Matai Williams scored 13 points for Cornwall College, Dajan Williams scored eight points and Tyreeke Mowatt also scored seven points and had eight rebounds.
