Jean Lowrie-Chin to receive 2022 Stella Gregory Award
THE Soroptimist International Club of Jamaica (Kingston) has named communications consultant and founder and managing director of the advertising and public relations firm PROComm, Jean Lowrie-Chin, CD, JP, as the 2022 recipient of its Stella Gregory Award.
The award is presented annually to an outstanding woman who has excelled in her chosen field and has contributed to national development. Lowrie-Chin, who is also founder/exec chair of the Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP), is being recognised for her outstanding leadership in the field of public relations and communications management, her pioneering work as an advocate for senior citizens, as well as for her philanthropy and volunteerism.
The award will be presented during the club’s 60th anniversary charter event and Stella Gregory awards ceremony on December 3.
Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement for women in business, management and the professions who work together to transform the lives of women and girls. The Stella Gregory Award was inaugurated in 1976 to honour the club’s founder Stella Gregory, who introduced Soroptimist International as the first service club for business and professional women in Jamaica.
Lowrie-Chin is widely acknowledged for her expertise in communication and management. Under her leadership, PROComm has provided public relations, advertising and marketing services to public and private sector clients in Jamaica and internationally. PROComm Ltd has also been instrumental in building several brands in Jamaica, and developing affirmation programmes for teachers, nurses, police officers and household workers.
Lowrie-Chin is also recognised for her voluntary service and contribution to nation building. She has held positions as chair of the Digicel Jamaica Foundation, commissioner of the Early Childhood Commission, board director of CIBC-FCIBJ and the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf and serves as a trustee of the Press Association of Jamaica. She has also been recipient of The Jamaica 50 Award — presented to 50 women deemed as nation builders by the Jamaica Women’s Bureau; The Women’s Media Watch Trailblazer Award; The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston Distinguished Woman Award; The Alpha Academy Alumnae Woman of Excellence Award; and the Marion Ballysingh Award for Outstanding Volunteerism.
In 2018, in acknowledgement of her contribution, she was conferred with the Order of Distinction — Commander Class for communications, entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
