The officiating in this tournament has been good, by and large. The refereeing has been good and VAR is being used properly to assist in the flow of the game.

I like the addition of longer stoppage time in most of the matches because it will discourage time wasting by teams, which I’ve always found to be an unfair tactic. I would still like to see more women involved as there are only three women referees of the 36 officiating over the 64 matches.

To be fair, the referees have been just okay. There has been free flow and not much complaint. VAR [video-assistant referee] has been the talk of the town, which overshadows the referees’ ultimate quality.
