Arnett rue 1-1 draw with Portmore
Arnett Gardens Head Coach Paul Davis says they threw away all three points against Portmore United in their Jamaica Premier League encounter which ended 1-1 at Stadium East on Thursday.
Substitute Damari Deacon scored for Arnett Gardens in the 54th minute while Tevin Scott netted for Portmore United in the 60th minute.
The draw has moved Arnett Gardens, who are unbeaten so far this season, to joint first in the standings on seven points, with Harbour View and Montego Bay United.
Davis says his team could have won the game quite comfortably had they converted their scoring chances in the match.
“I thought we gave away the game because we had them one-nil and we had them the way we wanted and then we just threw the game away,” he said. “We just started playing all over the field and we played into their trap and they caught us.”
He says Arnett lacked discipline throughout the match.
“I think we have to be a lot more disciplined if we want to win the games and to be more consistent in what we do all times on the field,” he said. “We also have to ensure that we maintain our concentration for 90 minutes, and not 45 minutes, because football is a full 90-minute game.”
Arnett Gardens dominated the first half, but they were let down because of poor finishing from Marlon Allen, Kimani Arbouine, and Ajuma Johnson.
The “Junglists” clearest opportunity in the first half fell to Johnson, who fired wide of the target from 10 yards, ending the half goalless.
Arnett continued to press for the opening goal, and they were rewarded nine minutes into the second half when Deacon arrived at the post to beat Portmore goalkeeper Benjamin Williams.
However, Scott gave Portmore the equaliser four minutes later with a thunderbolt one-time volley from 12-yards out past goalkeeper Eric Edwards.
But Portmore Head Coach Philip Williams is pleased with the result.
“I think it is a pretty decent result for us because this is our third draw of the season and we have not lost a game so far this season,” he said. “I think that what we are doing is setting up ourselves for better things to come as the season progresses.”
Defending champions Harbour View and Mount Pleasant Academy also played out a 1-1 draw in the earlier match of the double-header. Sue Lae McCalla scored for Mount Pleasant in the eighth minute and Colorado Murray equalised for Harbour in the 73rd.
