Cornwall College on losing skid, slip to Herbert Morrison
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Cornwall College lost back-to-back games in the ISSA Western Conference boys’ Under-16 basketball competition after they were beaten 66-50 by Herbert Morrison on Monday.
After winning their first three games, Cornwall College lost their first game on Friday, beaten 42-29 by Holland High School at Cornwall.
Cornwall led Monday’s game 11-8 after the first quarter, but Herbert Morrison took over in the second quarter and led by one point (27-26) at half-time and extended their lead in the third quarter to 49-34.
Trevaughn Bernard and Kamu Dennis both had double-doubles for Herbert Morrison, while Matai Williams had one for Cornwall.
Bernard scored 20 points and 10 rebounds, Dennis scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds, while Joshua Ferguson led all players with 23 points.
Williams scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds for Cornwall College as well as eight steals, Chima Onyia scored 10 points and had nine rebounds, Jon-Mac Mullings scored eight points, while Demar Lattibeaudiere had 10 rebounds.
On Friday, Cornwall College also led up to half-time, but were held to eight points in the second half as Evair Hines had a double-double for Holland High in their win, scoring 20 points and had 11 rebounds and six steals; Horraine Webster scored eight points and had 14 steals and nine rebounds; while Khaleel Anderson scored six points and Alleston Nelson got 14 steals.
Cornwall College’s Dajan Williams and Matai Williams were both held to single digits scoring this season with eight and six points, respectively, while Demar Lattibeaudiere had 13 rebounds and Johnathan Daye had 10 rebounds.
Holland High led 14-2 after the first half, but Cornwall College rallied to lead 21-16 at half-time but were outscored 26-8 over the last two quarters.
In an Under-19 game, T’Sean Crossman had a triple-double for St James High in their 62 points 86-24 win over York Castle at the Montego Bay Cricket Club also on Friday, scoring 24 points, got 21 rebounds and 10 steals.
Jodel Williams led all scorers with 26 points, Josan Williams scored 13 points and Wayne Lawrence scored 10 points while Keith Smith had 19 rebounds.
Prinson Bryan scored 10 points for York Castle while David Campbell scored six points and had 10 rebounds.
