Central High qualify for historic D’Cup semi-finals
CLARENDON, Jamaica— Central High qualified for their first ever ISSA daCosta Cup semi-finals after beating Edwin Allen High 2-0 in their quarterfinal game played at Foga Road High on Tuesday.
Central High’s win and Clarendon College’s 4-0 beating of 10-man Dinthill Technical in the second game of a double header at St Elizabeth Technical saw them advance on a better goal-difference after they ended on three points with Dinthill and Edwin Allen in Group A.
Clarendon College topped the table in Group A after winning all three games and they were matched by Manchester High who topped Group B after a 2-1 win over Manning’s School, who were losing for the first time all season, ending a 17-game unbeaten run.
Both Manchester High and Manning’s School had booked their spots from Saturday.
In the semi-finals, set for November 23 at St Elizabeth Technical, Clarendon College will meet Manning’s School in one game while Manchester High will meet Central High for the second time this season.
Additionally, all four schools will contest the ISSA All-island Knock-out which is set to start on Saturday.
Central High had lost their first two games and were counted out by most, but Shane Gordon and Nathaniel Howe produced the goals to get them in to their first semi-finals.
In the second game of a double header at St Elizabeth Technical, Malachi Douglass scored two penalties, in the 32nd and 43rd minutes to give Clarendon College a 2-0 lead over Dinthill Technical at half time and Kaheim Dixon added a third from the spot in the 59th minute while Marques Reid added a fourth in the 74th minute.
In the first game of the double, Manchester High joined Clarendon College in winning all three games in the quarterfinals as goals from Michael Soares and Yareke Carnegie gave them the edge over Manning’s School, who got a goal from Kajaye Williams.
