St James win fourth game in U-19 Basketball
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — St James High School maintained their good start to the ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition on Thursday, beating hosts Holland High 61-23 for their fourth straight win in the Under-19 section, while Herbert Morrison handed York Castle High back-to-back double losses.
The win took St James High back to the top of the points table in the Under-19 section with eight points, same as Holland High, who have played five games; Herbert Morrison are next on seven points from their four games followed by York Castle High on six and Cornwall College on four from four losses.
Holland High lead the Under-16 table with seven points from four games, three more than Cornwall College’s four points with York Castle next with four and Herbert Morrison on three points.
At Holland on Thursday, Keith Smith scored a double-double to lead St James High with 10 points and 15 rebounds as well as seven steals; Reiki Brown led all scorers with 16 points and Jodel Williams scored 14 points while TSean Crossman had 19 rebounds.
Giovanni Josephs scored eight points for Holland High, Jami-Lee Gardener scored seven points and Shamar Kean scored six, while Tawaine McKenzie had nine rebounds.
At Herbert Morrison Technical, Hubert Rodney and Shemar Martin both had double-doubles in the host’s 96-25 win over York Castle in the Under-19 game.
Rodney scored 29 points and 12 rebounds, Martin scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds while Renaldo Lewin scored 19 points and had nine rebounds and D’Aire Patterson scored 13 points and had eight rebounds.
Mekhi Bentley scored 10 points for York Castle, Ajan Brown had eight points and David Campbell scored seven points.
Trevaghni Bernard and Joshua Ferguson of Herbert Morrison also had double-doubles in the Under 16 game that they won 67-6, after shutting out York Castle in the first half, leading 9-0 after the first quarter and 31-0 at half time.
Bernard scored 26 points and had 10 steals as well as seven rebounds and Ferguson scored 25 points and had 12 steals as Kamau Dennis scored four points and had nine rebounds.
Tash-niel Christie scored four points and had 10 rebounds for York Castle.
