Holland sweep York Castle in rain-affected basketball games
HOLLAND, Trelawny — Holland High swept both games in their ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition over York Castle in Tuesday’s rain-affected schedule and have taken the leads in the points tables in both the Under-16 and Under-19 sections.
Holland High held off a hard-charging York Castle to win the Under-16 game by eight points (29-21) and came from a deficit after the first quarter to win the Under-19 game 24-12.
The Trelawny school are on seven points from four games in the junior competition, three more than Cornwall College who have won both games played; York Castle who have lost all three games are next while Herbert Morrison are on one point from their one game played.
Holland are also on seven points from four games in the Under-19 age group, one more than St James High who have won all three games played, followed by Herbert Morrison on five points from three games; York Castle are on five points from four games while Cornwall College, who have lost all four games, are at the foot of the tables.
In the Under-19 game on Tuesday, Holland High trailed by two points, 4-6, after the first quarter before taking over the game and led 11-8 at half-time and increased their lead to 16-10 at the end of the third quarter.
Shamar Kean was the only player who scored in double digits as he got 12 points and five assists and Giovanni Josephs scored eight points and eight steals.
Prinston Bryan and Mekhi Bentley both scored four points each for York Castle.
Holland High led the Under-16 game 5-2 after the first quarter, 14-4 at half-time and 26-9 going into the fourth quarter when York Castle stormed back to outscore the hosts 12-3 in the final 10 minutes but fell just short.
Holland High’s Zaheer Lynch led all scorers with 10 points, Renaldo Hosang had nine points and Evair Reid-Hines scored six points as Tash-Neil Christie scored nine for York Castle and Christian Andorn scored eight points and had 11 rebounds and 10 steals.
