St James, Cornwall College maintain win streaks
MONTEGO BAY, St James — St James High’s Under-19 and Cornwall College’s Under-16 teams extended their winning starts in the ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball with victories over York Castle High and Holland High, respectively, on Friday.
St James High ran their record to three straight after beating York Castle 80-16 at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, while Cornwall College made it back-to-back wins with a 57-27 win over Holland High at Holland.
Holland, however, won their Under-19 game against winless Cornwall College.
At Cricket Club, St James High wrestled the initiative from York Castle from the first quarter, leading 20-0 at the first break and doubled the lead at half-time to 47-2 and were up 63-6 at the end of the third quarter.
T’Sean Crossman had a double-double for St James High, scoring 11 points and had 12 rebounds and eight steals; Jodel Williams led all players with 26 points; Keith Williams scored 14 points and had eight rebounds; while Reiki Brown scored 12 points.
Mekhi Bentley scored six points for York Castle, while Anthwon Brown and Sudain Stewart scored four points each.
Cornwall College followed up their win over York Castle with a 30-point victory on Friday as Matai Williams scored 31 points and had eight steals, Dajan Williams scored 15 points and had six steals, and Demar Lattibeaudiere grabbed 11 rebounds.
Cornwall College were up 13-4 after the first quarter, 28-17 at half-time, and 41-21 at the end of the third quarter.
Evair Hines scored 14 points for Holland and Khaleel Anderson scored six points and had six steals.
Holland High had a measure of revenge in the Under-19 game, handing Cornwall College their fourth-straight loss, winning 53-28 thanks to a double-double from Shamar Keen’s 26 points and 10 steals, while Giovanni Josephs scored 15 points and had eight rebounds, with Tawaine McKenzie getting 11 rebounds and nine steals.
Holland High led 14-6 after the first quarter and were up 30-17 at half-time and 42-26 going into the fourth quarter.
Kelvin Green led Cornwall College with 13 points and nine rebounds.
