Molynes’ Thomas gleeful after first victory
Alex Thomas was delighted to secure his first win as head coach of Molynes United when they edged Humble Lion 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at the Stadium East field on Sunday.
A brace from Tyrique Wilson in the fifth and 30th minute and another from Rashawn Livingston in the 55th minute was enough to secure the win. Andre Clennon, in the 18th minute, and Andrew Vanzie, in the fourth minute of stoppage time at the end of 90, got the goals for Humble Lion who were losing for the first time this season.
Thomas, who began his top-flight coaching career at Arnett Gardens, took the reins at Molynes United at the beginning of the season, and after previously suffering defeat to Waterhouse, he has found the winning formula in his second outing of the season.
“I am feeling very elated. I am very happy with getting three points on the board,” he said.
“We played against an experienced Humble Lion team that is always going to come at you, but well done to our boys, they fought to the end.
“We went back to the training ground, we looked at our mistakes that we made against Waterhouse.
“Last game we played up to the 70th minute but this game we played to the 90 plus minutes and that was the main thing, concentration,” he said.
Molynes got off to the perfect start when Wilson got his first just five minute into the game , but former Reggae Boy Clennon hauled his team back into the contest when he netted 13 minutes later.
Half an hour in, Wilson put his team back in front and ten minutes into the second half Livingston made it 3-1.
Humble Lion did their best to stay in the game and set up a grandstand finish when Vanzie scored a deflected free kick four minutes into added time.
It would prove to be too little too late for the Clarendon-based team which has just one point to show from two games so far.
Andrew Price thought his team gifted their opponents the points with some sloppy defending
“I don’t think the team played well enough to deserve three points. I believe that we really shot ourselves in the leg. The goals were self-inflicted. Making those defensive errors cost us the goals.
“We tried to work back our way into the game and showed some fight in the last 10 minutes,” Price said.
