St James trounce Cornwall in U-19 basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — St James High made it back-to-back wins in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association Western Conference Under-19 boys’ basketball competition after a 125-24 victory over Cornwall College in Montego Bay on Wednesday.
St James High’s win comes days after they beat defending champions Herbert Morrison Technical 60-55. They are a point behind Herbert Morrison who rebounded to beat Holland High 75-34 on Wednesday.
In the lone Under-16 game played on Wednesday, Holland High won their second game in a row with a 42-34 victory over Herbert Morrison.
At Cornwall College, St James High were all over the hosts from the start and were never challenged in the 101-point win. They opened up a 27-7 lead after the first quarter and were up 44-12 at half-time. The score was 93-20 at the end of the third quarter.
Four St James High players scored in double figures, with Jodel Williams leading with 41 points, T’sean Crossman 23, Josan Williams 20, and Reiki Brown 18 points and 10 assists.
Kelvin Green was the only Cornwall College player to get into double figures with 10 points and eight assists.
Herbert Morrison rebounded from their first loss in the first round in years with a comfortable, 41-point win over Holland High in Trelawny. Herbert Morrison were led by a double-double from Hubert Rodney who scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds, while Reinaldo Lewin scored 20 and Shemar Martin got 10.
The defending champions led 12-8 after the first quarter and were up 29-12 at half-time. They were ahead 58-26 going into the final quarter.
Holland won the Under-16 game despite trailing by two points after the first quarter. They took the lead in the second quarter and were ahead 20-19 at half-time.
Herbert Morrison reclaimed the lead in the third quarter and were up 30-26 at the break but Holland responded with their best quarter of the game, outscoring the visitors 16-4 to win by eight points.
Holland High School’s Evair Hines led all scorers with 13 points and eight rebounds while Horraine Webster scored 10.
Joshua Ferguson led Herbert Morrison with 12 points.
