Major development projects coming for Broadleaf
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Member of Parliament for Manchester Central Rhoda Crawford says the community of Broadleaf is to see major development with three projects being carried out to benefit residents.
Broadleaf, a deep-rural community, is located south of Porus and east of Royal Flat.
Crawford, in addressing the launch of a Wi-Fi hotspot by the Universal Service Fund in Broadleaf on Monday, said the community is to benefit from the renovation of a clinic and a road rehabilitation programme.
“We look at several factors that influence why and where we should put the hotspot. Just three weeks ago myself and a team from the Jamaica Bauxite Institute [JBI] and the Ministry of Health visited the Broadleaf Clinic,” she said.
“The clinic is going to be refurbished with funding from JBI; we are looking to complete it in December. The JBI has committed a little over $5 million to refurbish the health centre so that residents won’t have to go to Mandeville to have many of their community needs met. When we toured the facility I realised that it is very small and so it needed extra space,” she added.
Crawford said she has committed $3 million towards the expansion of the clinic.
She added that allocations have been made for well-needed road repairs, “…to add extra rooms to the facility so that more services can be offered. In terms of the road network I have allocated $5 million for road rehabilitation. It is in the procurement stages so as soon as the procurement process is complete you will be seeing road repairs in your community,” assured Crawford.
“We people give their votes of confidence. I feel it is the duty of those who have been elected to respond to the needs of the people,” she expressed.
