Reggae Warriors score first-ever World Cup try in defeat to New Zealand
Jamaica suffered their second defeat at the Rugby League World Cup but scored their first-ever try in the process.
The Reggae Warriors went down 68-6 to title favourites New Zealand at the MKM Stadium in Hull, England on Saturday afternoon.
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak scored four tries and two goals in a man-of-the-match performance for the Kiwis, but Ben Jones-Bishop became Jamaica’s first-ever try scorer at a World Cup in the 76th minute of the match. It was on his 300th appearance in national colours.
It’s Jamaica’s second loss of the tournament, having lost 48-2 to Ireland on Sunday, and it leaves them bottom of Group C after two games. They next face Lebanon in their final game in the competition on Sunday, October 30 at 7 am Jamaica time.
