Touched By An Angel
Every October, several beauty practitioners get involved in the fight against breast cancer through exclusive offerings, with all or part of the profits being donated to the cause. Eye Beauty Ja principal Shelley Hendrickson says her efforts are year-long. The master trainer and brow expert conceptualised her ‘Pay With a Smile’ initiative in 2016. “Giving everyone [cancer patients and survivors] beautiful brows is my way of giving back,” she explained.
While most cancer patients will prepare for hair loss on their heads, it often comes as a surprise when eyebrows and eyelashes are also lost. Eyebrows have a significant effect on the overall appearance of a person’s face. For this reason, many cancer patients have sought the services of Hendrickson to maintain or enhance the original look of their brows, as they seek to feel better about their changing appearance. She usually recommends microblading or powder brows to eligible clients. The service is complimentary. “They pay with a smile,” says Hendrickson. The brow specialist has helped many women regain their confidence over the years.
And last Wednesday, five of these survivors were fêted inside the Trelawny Suite of the Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
