T&T netballers aim for third-straight win
Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) will be aiming for their third-consecutive victory in the Americas Netball World Cup qualifier when they tackle St Lucia on Monday at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
The match is scheduled to start 6:15 pm.
Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls, who were scheduled to open their account late on Sunday against St Vincent and the Grenadines, are to face the United States in the feature match starting at 8:15 pm. In other games on Monday, Grenada are to oppose Antigua and Barbuda at 6:00 pm, and St Lucia are slated to battle Barbados at 8:25 pm.
The Sunshine Girls, ranked third in the world, have already qualified for next year’s Netball World Cup by virtue of their ranking and are using the tournament as part of their developmental programme.
T&T kicked off their quest for their second consecutive World Cup Netball World Cup appearance when they recorded two wins on Sunday.
They first defeated Antigua and Barbuda 55-24 in the morning session before returning in the evening to beat St Lucia 63-25.
“I feel good about what they would have executed on court,” said Kemba Duncan, the Trinidad and Tobago coach said on Monday.
“I think they would have been disciplined, stuck to the game plan, and showed that they are the dominant team. It is just about taking every game one step at a time and just sticking to the game that we have been working on and assessing our opponents,” Duncan continued.
In other games from Sunday’s morning session, Barbados defeated the Cayman Islands 67-27; St Vincent and Grenadines outclassed the USA 51-24; and Grenada stopped St Lucia 54-45.
The top two teams at the end of the qualifiers will earn their spots to 2023 World Cup tournament which is to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from July 28 to August 6.
