Setting The Stage
Humans are highly visual creatures who rely heavily on what they see to help inform how they feel.
Many of our decisions are fuelled first by the visual and how it makes us feel, and then by the touch and how that stimulates us.
The home is no different. As a matter of fact, our spaces set the tone for how we feel.
So, when viewing a home, whether to rent or buy, or a villa or hotel, to which we escape, seeing it as it could be can help so many people who may not be able to visualise the finished space make a decision…This is where a designer is useful and when “staging” helps sell a property.
I recently had the privilege of staging a beautiful apartment on the waterfront in Oracabessa, using exquisite furnishings from Karmen’s Kollection. I wanted the space to feel light, airy and sophisticated, and I believe that it was “mission accomplished”
The Furniture Selected
The space opens up into a galley kitchen, with a view straight to the ocean. I did not want to obstruct the flow or the view by placing a dining table right in the middle. Karmen’s had the most practical and beautiful nesting dining set that I used, which is actually two tables with three stools. The table could be set up against a wall with the stools side by side. Or separated and swiveled (pictured here), which creates a peninsula effect and a work surface or serving area for the kitchen, and bridges the dining room with the living room.
To keep a light and open space I used a floor-length mirror between the two spaces, paired with a stunning oversized floor vase.
For the living space I chose a sofa in a seafoam blue that had white carved wooden detailing, which picked up the detailing of the dining table and paired it with two armchairs in an off white chenille fabric with an abstract print of mountain ranges and trees.
The coffee table and console table were a perfect match, as they were made out of wrought iron branches with glass tops that kept the space light and open.
For The primary suite, with the ocean view I chose a coastal theme of bright white, sky blue, and a hint of dark wood.
The white shiplap bedframe with dark wood trim, dressed in layers of white bedding, with a beachhouse print hung above the bed, is light fresh and airy.
The warm and cosy secondary suite, overlooks a garden courtyard, so in this room I went with warm earth tones and used a linen upholstered sleigh bed, dressed in a tropical-themed linen and white bedspread.
The space helps potential buyers see themself…Bessa Living.
