Holland High make dominant start to ISSA basketball competition
HOLLAND, Trelawny — Holland High made a winning start to the ISSA Western Conference boys basketball competition on Friday, beating York Castle High in their opening games in the Under-16 and Under-19 matches played at Holland High.
Despite fielding just five players, Holland High won the Under-19 game 39-27 after they had won the Under-16 game 31-12.
The Under-16 game between Herbert Morrison Technical and Cornwall College in Montego Bay was rained out and postponed for a later date.
With the win, Holland High joins defending champions Herbert Morrison as leaders in the Under-19 section and are sole leaders in the Under-16 section.
At Holland on Friday, the home team, led by a double-double from Ashani Brown, 15 points and 10 rebounds, got off to a fast start and led 13-6 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 10 points 21-11 at half-time and were up 29-19 at the end of the third quarter.
Shamar Kean also scored 13 points for Holland High as Giovanni Josephs scored six points and Tawaine McKenzie scored two points to go with six rebounds and 10 steals.
Angel Nolasco led York Castle with nine points, Prinson Bryan scored six points, while Durante Daley scored four points and had five rebounds.
In the Under-16 game, Holland High started slowly and led 3-2 after the first quarter before outscoring York Castle 28-10 over the next three quarters with Evair Hines leading all scorers with 12 points and also had five rebounds and three blocked shots.
Alleston Nelson also scored six points for Holland High and Zaheer Lynch scored five points as two players, Antwon Hardie and Christian Anderson, both scored five points for York Castle.
