ST ANN, Jamaica – Two more schools, Brown’s Town High and Seaforth High, both booked their places in the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after wins in their first round return leg games on Thursday.
A point was enough for Brown’s Town from their 0-0 draw against Ocho Rios High in Zone I while Seaforth High took second in Zone L after beating St Thomas Technical 6-1.
Twenty schools have now qualified for the second round including Irwin High, Frome Technical, Rusea’s High, William Knibb Memorial, Cedric Titus, Manning’s School, Petersfield High, St Elizabeth Technical, Holmwood Technical, Clarendon College, Edwin Allen High, York Castle High, Dinthill Technical, McGrath High, Paul Bogle High, Glenmuir High, Central High and Garvey Maceo High.
Meanwhile, Tacky High will have to wait for at least one more game before breaking their 16-year second round drought after they were upset 3-2 by Horace Clarke High in their Zone J game.
Brown’s Town did just enough to get second place in Zone I behind runaway leaders York Castle as their point from the draw saw them finish with 12 points, one more than Oracabessa High who ended their schedule on Tuesday.
York Castle ended their first round schedule with a 5-1 win over Marcus Garvey Technical and finished on 22 points.
Six different players scored for Seaforth High as they dominated St Thomas Technical, finishing with 21 points as Paul Bogle High beat Yallahs High 2-1 to eliminate them from advancing to the next round.
Zone J leaders Tacky High were expected to advance but lost 3-2 to Horace Clarke to throw the group wide open with four schools still in with a chance to qualify from the group with one set of games to be played.
Tacky High are still ahead on 16 points, one more than Horace Clarke, followed by St Mary Technical-14 and St Mary Technical-14 points.
