It’s officially a year since the launch of the contemporary clothing brand 1692!
The fashion line, conceptualised by Rock-born, UK-based professional footballer Raheem Sterling and fashion designer Samiya Miah, which takes inspiration from the 1692 earthquake in Jamaica, released its latest creation, the Wave Collection, Monday last. Since its inception at London Fashion Week (LFW) in 2021, the creators have released bags, T-shirts, hats and a few capsule collections.
The new edit, which pays homage to the rivers, waterfalls and the Caribbean Sea all contributing factors to the island’s natural beauty, features bucket hats, shackets and cargo shorts that maintain the brand’s signature clean cuts and earth tone colour palette.
And British-Jamaican actress Jodie Turner-Smith is turning heads in a campaign for clothing company Canada Goose’s FW22 Collection. For a feature story, “Live Boldly,” in Canada Goose Beyond, an art gallery showcased in every Canada Goose store, Turner-Smith opens up about ambition, fulfilment and motherhood.
“Every time I feel like it’s just the beginning [of my career] — and my husband is so sick of me saying, ‘I’m just beginning!’ He’s like, ‘You’re not just beginning!’ But I always want to have that state of mind, because I think the minute that we start thinking that we know everything — or that it’s no longer the beginning, we’re not looking at it with eyes for learning. And when you learn, you grow and you expand and you have so much more to offer,” she expressed.
