Firearms, ammo seized during Operation Relentless II in St James
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Two firearms were seized in operations in St James on Saturday, during Operation Relentless II, which the police say has been reaping success since its recent launch.
Joint police/military teams and the St James Operational Support Team first conducted an operation about 6:00 am, at Grenada Courts in Cornwall Courts, St James. During the search of a home, a .40 Taurus pistol and a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition were found in the closet of the bedroom. A man and a woman were arrested.
A second operation was conducted about 4:30 pm, at Cassava Walk in Albion, St James. One Browning single action pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition was found hidden behind a washing machine in a room of the house. Two people —a man and a woman— were arrested in connection with that seizure.
The two guns bring the total number of seizures to five since the start of the operation on Friday. The other three firearms were seized in St Catherine within the first 24 hours of the launch of Operation Relentless II.
The major operational push also resulted in the seizure of over 1,000 pounds of cocaine at the Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary on Friday. The drug has an estimated street value of US$25,000,000 (J$3.75 billion).
Operation Relentless II is a joint operational initiative that targets gangs and their illicit activities. It is being deployed as a tool in the divisions with the highest incidence of violent crime.
