Trainer Oneil “Sweetyman” Markland said he was confident that once the jockey rode to his instructions, his charge, Dejae’s Boy, would win the Administration Department Trophy feature event on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Caymanas Park.

Dejae’s Boy, ridden by Nicholas Hibbert, produced a late burst of acceleration in deep stretch on the inside rails to beat rivals on the wire in the three-year-old and upwards Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance contest at six furlongs (1,200m). Dejae’s Boy defeated The Good Witch and Super Duper in a close finish in a time of 1:13.0.

“Getting a sharp break at the start was the key here. The instructions afterward were then to get the horse going; put him on his bit and ask him to run the last two furlongs of the race.

“I also told the jockey that he [Dejae’s Boy] loves the rails and so don’t worry about him running for the rails in deep stretch. Don’t worry if he looks like he is going over it, if you ride him to my instructions, he will win the race,” Markland told The Supreme Racing Guide.

“Once he comes back okay, his next step will be up in class at the Open Allowance level. He has raced there before twice and ran creditably, he wasn’t successful and so we will put him down for a while and return when he is ready.

“Dejae’s Boy won the Ash Wednesday Trophy and he is winning here again and that indicates that he has Overnight company covered. It might not be easy at the Open Allowance level but he will be able to hold his own. He can win in Open Allowance company, once he is against the right company,” Markland added.

Dejae’s Boy was held off the pace set by Super Duper (Anthony Thomas) ahead of True Al Sky (Oshane Nugent) and Generational (Roger Hewitt). Dejae’s Boy continued to bide his time until approaching the distance when he surrounded horses to down into third place.

Turning for home, the five-year-old dark bay gelding found racing room on the inside rails and then exploded, to nick rivals for the win. The splits were 23.0 x 46.2.

“It was a good performance by Dejae’s Boy. I followed the trainer’s instructions very well and that was the key to victory. The horse found extra, he found another gear in deep stretch and got home. From the break, I made sure that I found myself in a good position, not too far from the leaders, just sitting in striking range and the rest is history,” Hibbert said.
