Samantha Black presents 12:45 @ NYFW
Rock-blooded fashion designer Samantha Black presented the 12:45 Samantha Black Spring/Summer 2023 Collection at Live Rocket Studios on Monday, September 12. The show was produced by Pynk Magazine founder Mecca Moore-Henson.
The collection is an ode to Black’s family home, 12/45 Virginia Ave, Bronx, New York. The community — a melting pot of Jamaicans, Puerto Ricans and Dominicans — was the “circle” where everyone came to be Americans and which helped to mould them into becoming New Yorkers. The new drop is a mash-up of all the flavours that influenced her childhood, transformed into a modern city aesthetic.
SO caught up with Black post-show, and she had this to say:
“Feeling really, really happy after the show. This took months and months of planning, stress, and designing…getting samples made in the right fabrics and just putting it all together, and making changes as the collection started to build. We presented an experience more so than just a fashion show, and I’m really proud of it. My partner Mecca Moore-Henson, who handled production, went above and beyond.”
“We had a cocktail hour so that editors coming from other shows could arrive early…and then we seated our guests and had a runway show. After our runway show, on the second floor of our venue, we had an after-party that was sponsored by Appleton, and our guests really enjoyed it.”
