Mannings, STETHS and Dinthill chalk up third D’Cup win
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Manning’s School, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Dinthill Technical stayed hot as they scored win number three on the trot on Saturday in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition.
They joined Paul Bogle High as teams to win their first three games while Rusea’s High and Edwin Allen both got back-to-back wins.
Former champions Clarendon College, Glenmuir High and Frome Technical, also made winning starts to their seasons.
Mannings School maintained their great start with a 3-1 win over Godfrey Stewart High in the Savanna-la-Mar derby with Jhamaleek Porter adding two more goals taking his tally to seven in the season, while Abeena Wallace got the other goals.
In Santa Cruz, Dantae Campbell scored his second goal of the season and Nickardo Smith got his first as STETHS beat Maggotty High 2-0 in Zone E as they also raced to nine points.
Two time winners Dinthill Technical had the biggest win of the day beating Enid Bennett 10-0 to take over sole leadership of Zone K after McGrath High had their two-game winning start snapped, losing 2-0 to Charlemont High.
Shamour Smith scored back-to-back hat tricks as he led Rusea’s High to another 7-0 win, beating Hopewell High at the Orchard Grounds in Hopewell in Zone B.
Deonjay Brown, Alaqa Logan, Terome Morgan and Dameni Gordon scored the other goals for Rusea’s High.
Ben Francis KO holders, Edwin Allen, also made it two wins from two starts, beating Lennon High 4-1 with goals from Kimalar Fearon, Tajay Thomas, Jevaughan McLellan and Patrick Harrison while Kemoy Lloyd scored for Lennon High.
Frome Technical made a grand start with a 9-0 thrashing of Merlene Ottey High as Ackeem Kangol led the way with a hat-trick, Stevon Spence got a brace, while Kemar Beckford, Javel Clarke, Dwayne Watt and Demar Williams also got on the score sheet.
Clarendon College were 7-0 winners over Kellits High in their opening game, while Glenmuir High beat Denbigh High 3-1 as Orane Watson, Deandre Johnson and Tajaun Cummings scored for the winners and Dunsting Cohen got Denbigh’s goal.
Meanwhile, Green Pond High upset Cornwall College in their game in Montego Bay, winning 2-1 in the first game back in Zone A.
Oshari Ellis gave Green Pond High the lead in the 10th minute but Braxton Richards scored his second of the season to pull Cornwall College level in the 21st minute. Wayne Gordon converted a penalty in the 63rd minute to restore Green Pond’s lead.
Richards could have salvaged a point for Cornwall College late in the game but missed a penalty in the 83rd minute as Green Pond held on for only their second victory over the former champions since the 2013 season.
