KINGSTON, Jamaica — Three-and-a-half days after being badly burnt in a fire that claimed the lives of her three younger brothers, 13-year-old Adrianna Laing was on Thursday air-lifted to the US to receive medical care.

She was transported by ambulance from the University Hospital of the West Indies to the Norman Manley International Airport about 5:00 pm today.

The flight was made possible following Wednesday’s impassioned plea by her father, Adrian Laing, for Jamaicans at home and within the Diaspora to help pay the US$39,872.50 (JMD $5,641,888) bill for an air ambulance.

Since then corporate enterprise Devon House; Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Alsion Roach Wilson; and Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami, Oliver Mair, have been among those who have played their part in ensuring the target was met.

On Thursday Stephen Josephs, the project manager of Sanmerna Foundation, which has played a major role in getting help for Adrianna, thanked them as well as other individuals and organisations that have come to the young girl’s aid. He is calling on Jamaicans to remember the teenager in their prayers while she is on her way to recovery.
