Natesha ventures into music
NATESHA Forbes was always drawn to beauty pageants. Twenty-two years ago she won the Miss Glendevon pageant. Later on she was crowned Miss St James 4-H Club, representing her alma mater St James High.
She credits her pageant experience for overcoming her shyness and making her more poised. Two years ago she ventured into music. Since then she has been busy making a name for herself.
“I grew up listening to my father David “Commissioner D” Forbes singing. My grandfather played the drum and the guitar, and my uncle had a sound system called Likkle Force that played at events in Montego Bay. So, from when I was young, I was surrounded by music,” Natesha told the Jamaica Observer.
She was encouraged by her mother to pursue her musical interests, and after moving to the United States she sought to get valuable advice about the music industry.
“Music started for me when my siblings and cousins used to watch me sing and write music to perform for them and during recess at school when my fellow classmates and I were clashing with each other lyrically with them being my audience. I also used to sing with my dad on our steps at our home and build a vibe whilst free styling,” said Natesha .
“I would describe the journey as great and adventurous. I’ve met a lot of people who share the same passion as I do. I have also learnt a lot about music from a business perspective,” she continued.
Earlier this year, Natesha released the independently produced single Body, which she has begun to promote locally.
“I’ve worked with many great producers. For this particular song, Body, it was mixed and mastered by multi-Grammy winner and nominee Ken Lewis, who has also mixed songs for the likes of rapper 50 Cent and R&B singer Jeremih,” said Natesha.
Currently residing in New Jersey, Natesha hopes to be recognised globally for her music.
