MANDEVILLE, Manchester – For the eleventh consecutive year students at Chudleigh Path Early Childhood Institution (CPECI) are benefiting from a scholarship fund that over the years has improved early childhood education in two deep-rural communities in north-east Manchester.

The Chudleigh Path branch of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Devon Missionary Church and the Wilfred “Jacksie” Reid Scholarship Fund (WJRSF) recently partnered in granting the scholarship and workbooks to students.

Chairman of WJRSF Franklin Reid said special awards were given this year in recognition of Jamaica 60.

“Arising from consultations with leadership personnel of the Chudleigh Path JAS Branch, it was agreed that for this year’s renewal, Jamaica’s 60th anniversary year, some special awards would be made. To this end it was agreed that the award to this year’s recipient and also to the other two students who are in year two and three of the scholarship from the Chudleigh Path JAS branch and the Wilfred ‘Jacksie’ Reid Scholarship Fund would be $60,000 each. Special cash awards would also be made to the two runner-up applicants,” he said while addressing Devon Missionary Church recently.

“Another two eligible students from Devon Missionary Church Sunday School also benefited,” he added.

He said WJRSF has committed to providing workbooks to all students in their final year at Chudleigh Path Early Childhood Institution preparing to enter primary school.

He said this year’s expenditure amounted to $550,000.

He explained that the WJRSF was established in 2012, “to honour the life and work of community stalwart, Wilfred “Jacksie” Reid, by providing scholarships to less fortunate, strong performing children from the church and the communities of Chudleigh Path and Devon, who require monetary support for the cost of their education”.
