South Manchester residents benefit from back-to-school fair
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — More than 130 residents, including children, were recently feted at a community fair and back-to-school fair in French Park, southern Manchester, ahead of the upcoming academic year.
The treat, which was organised by Member of Parliament (MP) for Manchester Southern Robert Chin, saw people from French Park, Swaby’s Hope, Spur Tree, Ellisten and adjoining communities turning up for medicals, consultations with Government agencies and children receiving books and stationery.
Resident Althea Reid said she was pleased with the turnout of people and thanked the MP for staging the event to assist those in need of medical check-ups and school supplies.
“It has been a long time we haven’t had this and we are also thanking the French Park New Testament Church for giving us their ground to do this function for today. We feel so good about it, because people are benefiting from it. Parents don’t even have the money to do the medicals, so we are thanking the member of parliament for doing this event,” she said.
