Policeman injury settlement solved by Tell Claudienne
Dear Claudienne:
I enlisted in the Jamaica Constabulary Force in April 1995 and served for 18 years, 8 months and 20 days.I resigned in December 2013.
During my tenure I was involved in a motor vehicle accident in February 2006, while on duty.
I sustained injuries which affected me throughout my remaining service, and for which I received medical treatment.
In February 2017 I made a disability claim to the NIS and was informed that I would have to be medically examined and that the process would take seven months to a year.
I left the island the same year for the Cayman Islands and so I wasn’t seen by the medical team provided by the Ministry of Labour until April 2019.
I was told that by September of 2019 the funds for my disability would be disbursed. I continue to feel pain and discomfort, mainly in my lower back.
Between 2019-2021 I made several calls to the NIS’s Ripon Road office and was told that my disablement claim was being processed. They asked me to give them up to six months to settle my claim.
I have completed all the prerequisites for the processing of my claim, and although I was told that I would be paid $4,800, to date (July 30,2021) I have not received it.
As all my efforts to have my claim settled have failed, I would appreciate your help in this matter.
