Barbados’ Caricom Ambassador completes five-day Jamaica visit
David Comissiong, Barbados’ non-resident High Commissioner to Jamaica and Ambassador to both the Caribbean Community (Caricom) and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) undertook a five-day visit to Jamaica from Friday, August 19 to Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
During the course of his sojourn in Jamaica, Comissiong visited the birthplace of National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey in St Ann’s Bay, and participated in IRIE FM’s annual tribute to Marcus Garvey as a keynote speaker.
In his address, High Commisioner Comissiong outlined Barbados’ journey to Republic status, and reflected on the many positive signs and accomplishments that suggest that Jamaica is poised and ready to make a similar transition.
High Commissioner Comissiong also undertook a series of meetings and courtesy calls in Kingston, inclusive of engagements at Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and meetings with Olivia “Babsy” Grange, Minister of Culture Gender Entertainment and Sport, and Julian Rogers, Managing Director of the Jamaica Observer.
The focus of several of these engagements was the effort that is currently underway to craft an Agreement to establish a joint Commission and Programme of Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between Jamaica and Barbados.
