Miguel Wealthy chases the Bubble
Clarendon-based dancehall artiste Miguel Wealthy is upbeat about his high-energy song Bubble.
“The song was released first with a challenge with the dancehall queen Pretti Pretti and it went viral, and then we shot the video afterwards, based on the buzz. After the pandemic, Boom Boom and Harry Hype play it on their live and it just took off inna the street parties in Kingston. Right now mi have over 2,000 videos of girls from Russia, North Korea, Italy, and Colombia ah dance to the song,” said Miguel Wealthy, whose real name is Miguel Page.
The single was released on the Rural Area Production label over a year ago.
“It is doing well in Panama, Colombia, and Belize, because a disc jockey, DJ Chiquidubs, started playing the song and it just took off in the Latin American market,” he said.
Miguel Wealthy already has a follow-up single Dutty Money.
“It is a commentary on the dirty money that is flooding the country and driving crime and violence to really high levels all along the south coast of the country where I live, so it is based on my experiences and observations,” he said.
Dutty Money was released two months ago on the A-1 Town Productions label.
Miguel Wealthy grew up in Clarendon with his parents and his siblings. He attended Vere Technical High School, balancing schoolwork and his love for music. At 17 his father entrusted him with the responsibility of managing his transportation company, but music remained his first love. He began to pursue music, using the stage name Excellence.
In 2005 he released his first single Love Mi Wen Mi Dirty, produced by Platinum Records in Guyana, which led him to tour within the Caribbean and the US. In 2012 he changed his name to Miguel Wealthy and he hasn’t looked back since.
“The year 2022 is going to be my year to make a breakthrough,” said the artiste, who is managed by Latoya Hewitt of Hewitt Entertainment.
His other songs include Caution and Senseless Killing.
