Cham, Bounty Killer to drop musical ‘Time Bomb’ with new EP
More than 20 years after combining for the monster hit ‘Another Level’, Bounty Killer and Cham are back with, not just a “brand new track”, a whole EP!
The dancehall heavyweights recently released their collaborative single ‘Blood Clxxt’ to favourable reviews and Cham, in an interview with OBSERVER ONLINE, said the pair are getting ready to drop ‘musical bombs’.
“‘Blood Clxxt, the song for the people’ was the first single off our upcoming EP. Myself and Bounty Killer were in the studio cooking up some fire and we’re just getting ready to drop all of that,” Cham said, adding “The EP is called Time Bomb and we’re dropping at least three singles before we unleash the whole work. It’s going to be something special.”
Cham said the idea for the project was borne from the mind of producer extraordinaire, Dave Kelly.
“It was Dave Kelly’s idea to do this for a while. We wanted to do it before the pandemic but then that happened and we had to put it off so right after the pandemic we decided that we wanted to get it started,” he said.
“Myself, Dave and Killer went to a secret location for one month and we just recorded straight. We just kept our focus on the music and so far, we’re like 50 per cent done and all of the songs we’ve recorded so far are ‘time bombs’, fire.”
“If you hear BC, song for the people and you love it, just picture what’s to come,” he continued.
Known for hits such as ‘Babylon Bwoy’, ‘Ghetto Story’ and ‘Vitamin S’, Cham says Time Bomb will showcase the best of dancehall.
Commenting on the combination of powerhouse talents, Cham said the project will be a masterful mix of musical genius from three of dancehall’s greatest
“Working with Dave over the years, I think people can establish that we (Killer and himself) have never, ever followed trends or the hype or nothing that’s going on. We kinda stayed in our own lane from day one,” he said.
“We do what we want to do and it’s not about the hype, egos or individuals, its about the music and the work we want to get done,” he continued. “As our creative juices flowed, we pushed the envelope. So on Time Bomb, you’re going to get authentic dancehall, a fusion of other genres. We’ve always been trying different things and so you can expect the EP to be creative but dancehall. At the end of the day you’re going to get that foundation.”
Cham described Bounty Killer as a “brother” and said, given their relationship, the synergy on Time Bomb is expected to be unlike nothing dancehall has seen before.
“Me and Rodney have a different kind of synergy. I can know what he’s going to say before him say it and vice versa. That’s how it works on stage, in the studio and when you find that in music you can’t take it for granted,” he said. “In today’s day and era when you don’t have love and unity out there like that, especially in the music, our relationship ago make this EP special.”
An official release for Time Bomb has not yet been established.
