Third cop denied bail in murder/extortion case
KINGSTON, Jamaica— A third cop, said to be involved in the extortion/murder case of Phillip Wallace, was today denied bail in his first appearance before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Constable Kemar Dennis, 23, who is charged along with two other police officers, was given a return date of September 6, for his next court appearance.
However, his lawyers, Peter Champagnie QC and Richard Lynch, gave notice of appeal. Dennis, who it is said, had fled the island after the murder of Wallace at East Kirkland Heights, St Andrew, on July 16, 2022, contended that he had not fled the island.

It was argued that travel arrangements had been a few months before. Additionally, his attorneys asserted that he could not have committed the offence since the date and time of the incident had him at the airport.
Two other cops, Corporal Miguel Ebanks and Constable Purcell Carter, have already been charged with murder and other related issues. The charges, according to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), were as a result of an investigation by the agency, with support from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
