Sagicor Foundation offers 60 in JA60
Sixty tertiary students are set to benefit from a share of over $3 million from the Sagicor Foundation as it rolls out additional educational grants for Jamaica 60.
These grants are an extension of the foundation’s existing tertiary scholarship programme through which 25 students will receive financial support towards their tuition valued at up to $300,000 annually, for up to four years.
The educational grant beneficiaries will be selected from the current pool of Sagicor Foundation Scholarship Programme applicants. Each recipient will receive $60,000 to assist with back-to-school expenses.
“Access to education is something the Sagicor Foundation has always been committed to, so this initiative is just an extension of the foundation’s contribution over the years. We are happy to have invested millions in scholarships and grants to date in support of our young, bright minds,” said R Danny Williams, chairman of the Sagicor Foundation.
In 2020, Sagicor provided 50 full scholarships in celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary.
“We had many applicants for our scholarship programme this year. We are pleased that we will be playing a role in ensuring that the academic dreams of a number of young Jamaicans come true,” he continued.
In 2021, over 39 tertiary students pursuing their first degree at The University of the West Indies, Mona; University of Technology, Jamaica; Northern Caribbean University; Caribbean Maritime University; Mico University College; Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts; and the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean were awarded new scholarships.
Scholars and grant awardees will be recognised and rewarded at an awards ceremony later in August.
“We are very proud of our past scholarship recipients, and we are excited to welcome the new cohort as they start their journey to greatness,” expressed Williams.
