Brushes of the Past — A Retrospective of Jamaican Fine Arts from the 1960s
For art enthusiasts, Art Gallery Decor VIII, on Hillcrest Avenue was the place to be on Sunday, July 31, 2022. The fine art gallery held the official opening of Brushes Of The Past: A Retrospective of Fine Jamaican Art From The 1960s
Hyacinth McDonald, Decor VIII founder and curator, shared, “Art is very powerful; it goes hand in hand with culture, and when you start to connect with art, you start to connect with your soul that opens up a whole new perspective. It usually brings out peace within you. If we could get more people to connect with art, peace would come into play easily.
One of the aims of Decor VIII is to get art active in more communities. As it relates to the turnout of Brushes Of The Past, it was amazing to see all the art lovers, but more importantly the appreciation they had for these 60 pieces of work. Everyone was thankful for the opportunity to see what Jamaican art was like in that period.”
Sunday Social was on site to capture a few of those artistic moments.
