Thompson-Herah wins Commonwealth Games 100m
Elaine Thompson-Herah added the Commonwealth Games 100-metre title to her growing collection after she outclassed the field to win the final in 10.95 seconds (0.4m/s)at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on Wednesday.
Thompson-Herah, the repeat Olympic champion and World Championships bronze medallist, took over the lead early and was never challenged.
St Lucia’s Julien Alfred was second in 11.01 seconds and England’s Daryll Neita third in 11.07 seconds.
Jamaica’s Natalliah Whyte finished eighth in 11.32 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who won the gold medal in Gold Coast four years ago, was second in the women’s shot put, beaten in the final round by Canada’s Sarah Mitton who threw 19.03m.
Thomas-Dodd who only had two legal throws, led from the third round with 18.98m but fouled her final three throws.
Lloydricia Cameron was fourth, her best finish in a major championships with 17.62m.
High jumper Romaine Beckford was eighth with a best height of 2.19m.
