THE LOVE IS BACK!
After a three-year break, the Corporate Area could see the return of the much-loved National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) Kingston & St Andrew Region Business House League, according to organisers of the competition.
With the growing fears related to the spread of COVID-19 in Jamaica in 2020, organisers were forced to cancel the tournament. However, with the recent removal of all the protocols under the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA), Humbert Davis, first vice-president of NADB, said that plans are in place to have the sport in full operation for the 2023 season.
“We had no choice back then but to cancel the competition. Three years have passed and no business house tournament, but we have to move on and all of that will change come next year as we are in the planning stage of having the domino tournament up and running again,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
“There will be some changes in the structure of the competition but the principle remains the same which is conduct, contract and construct. We have to work together in ensuring that the game of domino maintains its dominance as a sport to all,” he continued.
Davis said that in due time he will reach out to the business house community with his plans for the return of the league.
“Every year the championship gets bigger and better; full of excitement and great moments as well. We aimed to bring everyone together, both employer and employee as one, unit, working as one and it always turned out wonderful.
“The love that we got from everybody was amazing and so we want that back. The truth is, I missed everyone as we have become a one big family and so as planning goes on, I will be reaching out to the business houses and see if they are interested in returning to the competition,” the first vice-president said.
Davis said that the game of domino itself has a multi-factorial effect on the human psyche as it improves cognitive intelligence because it involves planning effective strategies to cope with new situations and be able to overcome difficulties.
“It stimulates as we have said, the attention and memory the game promotes the cognitive decentration, so it helps to develop the thought. It improves interpersonal and social intelligence since it requires action and active participation by interaction with others, broadening the world relationship and strengthening socialisation,” explained the domino boss.
