Zèphaniah Caribana Collection
Vibrant prints are on-trend this summer 2022 and are everything a bold, maximalist dresser like yourself needs. To be fair, prints have always been trendy during the warmer months, but these days designers are pairing abstract patterns with billowing designs, creating looks that wow.
Nickishia Baylis, lead designer for local brand Zèphaniah, is keen on maintaining the more-is-more momentum. “This summer it’s all about injecting a joyful mood into your look,” Baylis told Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF).
Her new collection Caribana, is emblematic of Baylis’s new lease on life. “This year is the eighth year since I first launched Zèphaniah. The journey has been one filled with many highs and lows. The number eight means a new beginning, and for many, 2022 represents just that: life after the pandemic,”she shared.
Caribana, she explains, is an expression of free spirit, optimism, and joyous adventure through bold colours. Think: flowy silhouettes cut from fabric covered in colourful fruit motifs and wrap dresses in bold solids and serene water-colour prints. The names are also symbolic. The Itriago Wrap dress is an ode to Baylis’s dear friend, who she says believed in her fashion designing dream and aided in buying her first sewing machine. Esther, a name that means to hide or conceal, was given to arguably the most salient piece of the collection. Quite the oxymoron Baylis admits, though she rationalises the decision with this: “Before April, I felt like my brand, though complete with bold, noticeable pieces, was not visible,” she explained. “Everything changed after I got my first TSF feature.”
As Zèphaniah continues to bloom, TSF shares pieces that deserve a spot in your summer wardrobe.
