Häagen-Daz vanilla ice-cream recalled due to pesticide residue
THE Consumer Affairs Commission has been informed by the Ministry of Agriculture of an urgent notification from the European Union Rapid Alert for Dangerous Non-Food Products for the immediate withdrawal of Häagen-Daz Plain Vanilla ice-cream products sold in Jamaica due to a “serious” level of trace amounts of the pesticide ethylene oxide (ETO) found in two batches of the product.
The Winsynco supplier of Haagen Daz Ice Cream, General Mills, issued a voluntary recall of the product with the following product description:
1. Häagen-DazsTM Plain Vanilla products, including
Pints (473 ml)
Quarts (946 ml), minicups (95 ml)
Half-Gallons (0.5 gal)
Bulk (2.5 gal) formats
2. BBO/expiry Best Before/Expiry Dates between 05/07/2022 and 18/07/2023 (July)
The Consumer Affairs Commission is encouraging consumers to check refrigerators at home, school or any other institution, for the items involved in the recall as described above for the Best Before or Expiry Dates. Consumers in possession of these batches of the products are advised to cease further use and return same to the point of purchase, for a full refund.
Also, consumers who shop online are to be aware of the product descriptions that are included and avoid ordering for home delivery.
