#WorldChamps: Jamaican women secure spots in 200m Semis
EUGENE, Oregon – Shericka Jackson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Elaine Thompson-Herah, who are fresh off a clean sweep of the 100 metres, have safely advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres in Eugene, Oregon.
Jacskon, who clocked a world leading time of 21.55 seconds at the Jamaica Trials in June, took command of heat one to take a comfortable victory in 22.33 seconds. Jackson was followed by Gabriela Anahi Suarez of Ecuador in 22.56 seconds and Italy’s Dalia Kaddari, who rounded out the top three in 22.75 seconds.
Meanwhile, the 2013 Moscow world championships gold medallist, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, settled for the second spot in the opening round behind Aminatou Seyni of Nigeria. Fraser-Pryce recorded a time of 22.26 seconds, while Seyni clocked a new national record of 21.98 seconds.
Thompson-Herah, who claimed the Olympic title in the event, finished second in heat two behind Beatrice Masilingi of Namibia. Thompson-Herah clocked 22.41 seconds, while Masilingi ran a season’s best of 22.27 seconds for the top spot.
The semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres is slated for tomorrow, July 19 at 8:05 pm Jamaica time.
