Act now, Minister
Dear Editor,
The following is an open letter to Minister Karl Samuda;
The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) is calling on you, Minister Samuda, to appoint a board of enquiry into the series of accidents that have occurred in several industries over an extended period of time.
The issue of training, supervision, the provision and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) must be critically examined. Implementation of safety policies and regulations are also of concern to the union. Additionally, the provision of personal injury and life insurance must be examined and made mandatory. The terms and conditions of the employment should also be a part of the enquiry. The findings of the enquiry must be made public.
Minister, you must act now before another Jamaican worker is injured or another life is lost.
John Levy
General secretary
Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees
