Jamaica reports 117 new COVID cases, two deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 117 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Saturday, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 143,982 and the death toll to 3,157.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 70 females and 47 males with ages ranging from six weeks to 88 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (34), St Catherine (27), St James (15), Portland (12), St Elizabeth (seven), Clarendon (five), Hanover (four), Westmoreland (three), St Thomas (three), St Mary (three), Trelawny (three) and St Ann (one).
The two fatalities are of an 80-year-old female from St Elizabeth in June 22 and a 78-year-old male, also from St Elizabeth, in July 2022.
The country also recorded 86new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 91,668.
The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 16.3 per cent. There are 99 people hospitalised, two of them critically ill.
There are 1,234 confirmed active cases on the island.
