Alkaline team offers condolences to family of man killed after Stadium show
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The management team of dancehall artiste, Alkaline, have publicly expressed their condolences to the family of Orthniel Thomas, the Good Samaritan who was fatally shot as he attempted to foil a robbery last week Sunday.
Reports are that Thomas was on his way home from the deejay’s New Rules event held at the National Stadium, when he tried to retrieve a stolen item from robbers along Tom Redcam Avenue.
During his act of bravery, Thomas was shot in his left upper back. He collapsed and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital by a police unit where he was pronounced dead.

Alkaline & New Era Productions, in a statement posted to their social media platforms on Friday, said they have been in dialogue with Thomas’ family and are deeply moved by his death.
“Mr Orthniel Rowayne Thomas would have celebrated his 22nd birthday today. His untimely death, almost a week ago has been felt not just by his immediate family and friends but also by a community of music lovers he associated with,” a part of the statement read.
“Mr Earlan Bartley, more popularly known as Alkaline, and his team would like to publicly express their condolences to his mother Ms Safra Turner and the extended family.
Mr Thomas, who was amongst over 38,000 patrons at the National Stadium Car Park on July 2nd, 2022, left the venue with the hopes of reaching home safely. His neighbourly actions, which led to his untimely death, must be acknowledged.”
The statement also used the opportunity to implore anyone with information surrounding the incident to share it with relevant authorities.
