Khaki RULES @ Maison Bent
Maison Bent founder and creative director Shanna Bent has created her first ready-to-wear (RTW) collection! A departure, she quickly informs SO, from her made-to-order brand. There’s more! Bent, in her first RTW collection, has sought inspiration from her Jamaican heritage. “I have decided to create my first RTW items inspired by the khaki school uniform worn by Jamaican schoolboys. I have actually been wanting to work with khaki for a while and as Jamaica will be celebrating 60 years of Independence this year, I felt this is the perfect time to pay homage to home. The [khaki] uniform is used by every public schoolboy on the island, which creates a powerful unison and is a reminder that we are ‘Out of Many, One People’.
“I have named this set after my late great grandfather Elkanah “Foukah” Burton. He was the rock of the family… No better tribute for the beginning of an exciting and new chapter for Maison Bent”.
