A Golden Jubilee Display
The centuries-old Japanese art of arranging flowers was spotlighted on Saturday, June 18 at the Liguanea Club, when Ikebana International Jamaica – St Andrew Chapter 156 celebrated its golden jubilee. Ikebana International is a non-profit cultural organisation dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of Ikebana.
Members and guests visually feasted on displays from the most popular schools of Japanese floral arrangement, notably Ohara, Sogetsu and Ichiyo.
The dominant blooms on display were heliconias, anthuriums, chrysanthemums, carnations and azaleas.
What is Ikebana?
It is the art of flower arranging with blossoms, branches, leaves and stems finding new life as materials for art-making. Unlike the Western habit of placing fresh flowers in a vase, Ikebana’s focus is on the inner qualities of flowers and other live materials.
